Notes from Penny's foster Mom:

Penny & Polly came to us at 10:30 at night approximately 6 months ago. They were so scared that they didn’t come out of the bedroom we put them in for more than a week and even then they skittered back into the room whenever they saw us. With every move we made they pushed farther and farther into the corner under the bed.
Now, after giving them lots of love and attention they have made huge improvements, although they are still scared of heavy footsteps and sometimes still run away if Adam walks into the room. We have no proof but we believe that they may have been abused by the man of the house who worked out west and only came home for a few days each month. It was obvious that the woman who brought them cared about them and would miss them. The owner took their 3 bulldogs with them when she moved out west.
Their story is that they were rescues many years ago after Penny had given birth to Polly. Other than being spayed and Polly being declawed they never visited a vet or left the home of the previous owner. Prior to them coming to our house they had to go to the vet and get their shots. Needless to say, all this unexpected movement frightened them badly.
Penny has come out of her shell enough that she comes to me regularly for brushing and enjoys it. Polly is still shy and she is also dominated by Penny but enjoys being brushed if I can calm her down. Polly has tried to make friends with my 2 cats but Penny gets in the way and appears to discourage that. Penny is frequently domineering with my cats and thus the reason I can’t keep them. My cats are sisters from the same litter and are now a year and a half old. Their behavior has changed substantially since Penny & Polly came to stay. They no longer play and spend all their time staying “above” on shelves, window ledges, tables, anything that keeps them on a different level than Penny & Polly.
Penny & Polly use the scratching post we have here and don't scratch the furniture. They are quiet and well behaved. Penny likes to "talk" to say hello and let me know she wants attention. Polly is quiet -- not a peep out of her. They eventually started jumping up on the bed but my cats discouraged that -- the same with coming onto our lap. I think that living without other cats will be beneficial to them. They have beautiful faces and the fur on their bellies is so soft and fluffy – I love running my hand through it.
They both have a lot of love to share with their “forever” family.

Please note that the animals in our program are available for adoption only to individuals located in the Region of Durham area; however we are always happy to refer you to a rescue or shelter in your area. Thank you for your understanding.
