Pepper Anne was a very scared little cat for a long time when she was brought to the shelter after the death of her owner. She spent a lot of time in the back of her kennel and would hiss if you tried to pet her. She is a more confident cat now due to the use of a long handled brush that was used to pet her so that she didn't think the person in front of her kennel was too close. That strategy is still being used, but she comes to the front of the kennel now and allows a little petting with a real hand instead of a brush. She should continue to improve and that may happen faster in her forever home, where she's not surrounded by so many other cats. She does not get along with other cats and being an only cat should also make her more comfortable.
