Perrito (GA)

Rat Terrier

Small  |  Male

Atlanta, ga

Everyone calls me "tiny" and "cute," and that's fine because I am certainly cute. But don't be fooled by my short stature and weight of just 8.5 lbs. Big personalities come in small packages. Firecrackers are tiny, you know what I'm saying? I'm Perrito, a Teddy Roosevelt, or Type B, Rat Terrier. At a spry 9 years old, I am one tough boy. I like to play a rousing game of ball, take a running slide into the carpet shoulder first for a good roll. If I get knocked down, I get right back up, shake it off, and move forward. I'm usually following my person closely in case something exciting happens. Neighborhood walks are the best, and I take them terrier style--forward, double time, and with good leash manners! I'm a dutiful recycler and pick up plastic bottles along the way. (See me in action here: .) Positive reinforcement training is my favorite because it means food! Praise! Back rubs! I also like to get a laugh by wagging my short, crooked tail. Yes, I use my adorableness to my advantage. I like all kinds of adult people, but I need to know you before I let you touch me. My sensitivity to touch and unpredictable movement is why I'm not a good match for preteen kids. Getting along with dogs is something I've learned, but sometimes I forget when food is involved. Sometimes I can get into a single-minded behavior groove and need help to get out, so I'm on an inexpensive medication that helps me think better, and I've had training to give me other things to do besides get stuck in compulsions. I also take some supplements with my special food to keep my chronic pancreatitis in check, and I'm doing great on them. I'm house trained if I'm reminded to go outside, and I'm paper trained. I sleep in a crate at night and can be left in a safe area when I'm alone in the house. It's possible for me to be adopted far away from my foster home, but if you're within easy driving distance of Athens, Georgia, you can meet my adorable furry self and also get all kinds of help with my transition. It's really important to me that my next home is finally a true forever home with people to call my very own. Yep, even a tough fella like me has a heart hankering for love.

Our adoption fee is $175 for adult dogs or $225 for puppies under 6 months old.
