Sweet little Petey was saved from a very lonely life on a chain. As a young pup, he was given to an elderly owner who didn’t have time or interest in caring for him, so he chained Petey to a bush with only a white plastic barrel cut in half for shelter. He was only a few months old, and thankfully a concerned neighbor called animal control to report the conditions he was living in. Officers responded quickly and gave Petey’s new owner a 7 day warning to get him a rabies shot and at least install a trolley line so that he would have some space to move around. He was not interested in making the effort for Petey and instead chose to surrender him to DDB. We were glad to take him in, and luckily for Petey, he was rescued early and will live a much better life.
Petey is mutt, he could have some Hound or Italian Greyhound mixed with Terrier. He’s 10-11 months old, has a thin frame, and weighs 33 lbs. He has a playful, fun energy about him, but can also relax inside and loves to snuggle. This adorable pup now has a foster mom who adores him and a variety of dogs to keep him company. Petey is a very social pup with good doggy manners; he’s respectful to their older, smaller dogs, but will romp and play with his younger foster buddies.
Petey has been in his foster home a few weeks now and has learned quickly. He was crate trained in days, and is almost fully housetrained, though he still needs to be monitored for chewing as he still has some puppy in him. His foster mom describes him as a super-sweet pup who wants to please. He’s not a stubborn dog and is very treat-motivated, so he can be taught quickly. He also loves to cuddle, and will even try to sleep under the covers if he can. He has a very submissive nature, and will make a great fit for homes with kids and other dogs.
Petey arrived in N VA this weekend and is settling into his new foster home. Updates and better pics coming soon!
