PIPPA is an adorable young GSD pup who's had a rough start to her young life! At just 8 weeks old, she was surrendered by her owner (a trucker) to a local shelter indicating she had been climbing his fence and escaping. It turns out she actually had an incontinence issue, and we suspect she was leaking urine in his truck while on the road. She was in the shelter's foster care program for around a month while they tried to figure out what was causing the problem. MOGS ended up taking her in and putting her through surgery to try to correct the problem -- her plumbing was basically in the wrong spot -- which means urine didn’t empty into her bladder but instead exited directly as it was produced, and she was leaking.
TEMPERAMENT
Pippa is a super-sweet girl! She was a little unsure of her foster family when she first arrived, but after a few hours of being leashed to her foster Dad, she started to realize she had nothing to fear (except maybe a bath!), and they could be trusted. She has the most adorable face and wet nose, and wants nothing more than to play. Play with her humans, play with other dogs, just PLAY.
Pippa will need strong and attentive leaders in her forever home to help her learn how to be a good doggie citizen. She's had some issues with possessiveness of her food, and her foster parents are working with her to modify her behavior.

OTHER ANIMALS
Pippa LOVES other dogs, and will be a great playmate! We strongly recommend having another dog in the home of similar size and energy level for Pippa to pal around with. So far, she's been OK with cats, although we always recommend supervision
MEDICAL
Pippa has been in foster care for many months, has had several surgeries and procedures to correct her incontinence, and she has continued to have regular urinary tract infections. She's much improved now, and is getting along wonderfully well! While the leakage issues appear to be resolved, it's important to note that due to these issues she's dealt with so far, she will likely continue to get 3-4 urinary tract infections every year. Her adopting family must have a good relationship with their veterinarian, and commit to providing excellent ongoing veterinary care for Pippa.
Pippa appears is a very sweet girl, and will be a great companion dog for one very lucky family!

PIPPA's ADOPTION FEE: $350
This fee covers only part of what we spend to vet, board and rehab the dogs we save. On average we spend over $450 on each dog. We made a decision to keep our adoption fee at the 2005 level even though vet prices have doubled and tripled since then. We are constantly fundraising to cover the deficit. At minimum, your adoption fee includes the dog's spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed, rabies shot, distemper/parvo shot, bordatella shot, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea preventives, and microchip. In many cases it also includes surgery and various types of vet treatment for standard issues such as hot spots, ear infections and so on.

PLEASE READ THIS:
We're picky about our adopters! GSDs are not for everyone. They demand lots of time/effort/training. They shed all year round and are big and scare lots of people. They "mouth" and are usually strong-willed and stubborn. You have to have references and a home visit. If you're not willing/able to deal with any of this, please don't waste your time applying.
All MoGS dogs must be inside family pets. We do not adopt to outdoor only homes. You have to put your dog indoors (NOT in the yard) when you're not home. One adopted MoGS dog died after the owners left to run errands, left her outdoors, someone opened the gate, and she was hit by a car. Privacy fences have been broken into, gates have been opened, thieves have stolen dogs. NEVER leave your dog outdoors when you're not home!!
You're required to make a lifetime commitment. Only you can make sure the dog is safe, loved and cared for, for life. The minute you adopt, that responsibility is yours. Are you unable or unwilling to make a lifetime commitment? Do not apply. What's your plan for unexpected events and major changes? New baby? Divorce? Moving? How you will provide for your dog if your family breaks up? If you move? If you have a child?
You're making a lifetime commitment to a MOGS Dog. We expect you to keep it! It's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to stick by your family member -- no matter what.
