Reese is a 3 year-old Dalmatian mix male with a sweet disposition who came to us from a local county dog shelter as a heartworm positive stray. Reese looks like a Dalmatian who had all of his spots washed off except for a few on his ears! We think it’s safe to say that, prior to arriving at the shelter, Reese didn’t have a very nice life. Upon his arrival at the shelter, the staff immediately noticed that Reese had been debarked. He sounds a bit like a sea lion when he vocalizes. Reese had likely been chained up his entire life which often leads a dog to bark incessantly out of sheer frustration and boredom. So his previous owner must have had him debarked and put him back out on a chain to live his life. The best day of Reese’s life came when he somehow got loose and ended up at the dog shelter. When no one came to claim him, he made the trip to us to get the lifesaving heartworm treatment that he needed. Reese was treated for heartworms in May and did very well so is eager to find a new home where he can live as a pampered indoor companion. Following his heartworm treatment, Reese had to adjust to 30 days of cage rest, only going outside for brief periods to pee and poop. He had a hard time with that initially as he was not used to being crated but after a couple of weeks, picked up on that routine and did very well. He is crate-trained now and should probably continue that in his new home while he gets used to a new routine. Reese gets along well with other dogs so might enjoy a home with a canine pal to show him the ropes. He can get over a four-foot fence so will need to be kept on a leash or have a tall privacy fence to keep him safe at home. He just can’t wait to experience how wonderful a dog’s life can and should be with a new family. Reese weighs about 55 pounds and his adoption fee is $200. He’s neutered, current on monthly heartworm preventative, up to date on vaccinations, wormed, on flea preventative, and microchipped. All Canine Lifeline adoptions come with a two-week trial period to make sure it’s a great match before the adoption is finalized. Please email info@caninelifeline.org if you’re interested in Reese. An approved application is required before we set up meets with any of our dogs. All of our dogs come to us from county dog pounds so we have no history on them. We also have no foster homes with young children so aren’t comfortable placing any of them in a home with children less than 4-5 years of age. We try to respond to inquiries within 24-48 hours so if you haven’t heard from us within that time frame, please check your junkmail or spam folder to make sure our reply hasn’t landed in there. Reese’s heartworm treatment cost about $450. If you’d like to make a donation to help with his care so that we can save another dog in the future, please do so on our website at www.caninelifeline.org or by sending a check to Canine Lifeline, PO Box 25742, Garfield Hts OH 44125. Thank you from Reese and Canine Lifeline! Please visit our website at www.caninelifeline.org to see more pics of Reese and to submit an online application.
