Dogs come to SOTB for a variety of reasons but they all have something in common. They aren't wanted any more. Sometimes a dog isn't wanted one time and they come to us and we find a person who wants them forever. Some times a dog isn't wanted by a whole lot of people before they come to us. Those dogs have stories they could tell if only we would listen. Ricki is one of those dogs. Ricki and his mother and his siblings were dumped in a shelter, they were pulled from there and brought in to a rescue where Ricki's mom and his brothers and his sisters were all adopted to their forever homes. Ricki wasn't adopted, so he waited. While he waited the rescue who was caring for him closed their doors. They couldn't afford to keep caring for dogs and so Ricki needed to find another place to go. Ricki's mom was an Anatolian Shepherd but he doesn't look enough like a Shepherd for their rescue's to take him. He looks a little like a pit bull though, so his rescue reached out to us. One of our foster families saw Ricki, saw his plight and decided to step in for this boy.

They discovered something very very important about Ricki. He's shy.

Imagine you're with your mom and family, you're in a shelter and there is noise everywhere. Then you're whisked away from there to a new place where you're separated from your Mom and siblings one by one until you're the only one left. Then you're moved again, and again and finally you're in a new place and the people there seem to be hanging around for a while. Finally you can start to relax. They seem to understand you. They seem to be trustworthy. They take care of you. You can start to enjoy life again.

That's Ricki's story. His foster mom has been taking him to 'Shy Dog Class'. In class he's learning that new situations are ok. He's learning that he can walk to a new place without trembling with fear. Ricki is learning that play can be fun, walks can be fun, and new people can be really fun. When you go to meet Ricki at an event he might not be the puppy to rush up to greet you. He's more the kind of dog who's going to watch you for a minute to make sure you're his friend. Once he knows you are, watch out because he's got a lake's worth of love he's been storing just for you and he can't wait to share. At South of the Bully we love dogs like Ricki because they show us that a great dog can forgive people when we mess things up for them again and again. Ricki is going to be some family's diamond in the rough, the dog that everyone else ignored because he wasn't impressive enough and then they discovered he's perfection on 4 legs. For a family ready to be patient and earn Ricki's trust they're about to discover he just might be the greatest dog they've ever met. If that family is you, go to southofthebully.com and fill out an adoption application for Ricki. We're so looking forward to the day he meets his forever people!

Our adoption fee is $195. This covers spay/neuter, microchip, microchip registration, all age appropriate vaccines, and any needed vet care.
