Ricky - Male - 3.5 years old - GRRALL #0557
NTGD Debut: We've been waiting for a special time to introduce you to Ricky, one of our newest intakes. Ricky came to us from the Weatherford shelter. A volunteer reached out to us because he was on the urgent list. Ricky was a stray pick-up and had a serious leg injury. In fact, it was so serious the leg dangled useless at his side and the bone was sticking out of his skin. Yes, you read that correctly...OUT OF HIS SKIN. Amazingly, there was no infection or necrotic tissue. We rushed hi m to our vet, who performed X-rays and determined the leg was shattered and probably an older injury. There were also some metal fragments in his leg, indicating that he may have been shot.
Ou r vet determined the best option for Ricky was to amputate his leg. Surgery was performed earlier this month, and he was neutered at the same time. Ricky was placed in his foster home on Monday, and is already adjusting well to having three legs. His foster family is devoted to helping and loving him, and he will be a fantastic dog for someone. He is resilient and has the best attitude! You'd never know what Ricky has endured if you met him. While it is worth every penny saving a dog, the reality is that in just a few short weeks we have racked up a $2,119 vet bill saving Ricky's life.
