Roberta

Labrador Retriever

Medium  |  Female

Arlington, VA

Meet Roberta. This sweet pup definitely looks like a Labrador retriever with her gorgeous shiny black coat, but is smaller in stature and has a littlle shorter legs, so she's lower to the ground than a typical lab. She's a very affectionate pup who loves her person, but also really enjoys the company of other dogs.
Roberta was found wandering the streets with a fellow dog buddy, and they were both taken into the local shelter by animal control. At the shelter, they discovered that Roberta had stress-related seizures, and was not a good fit for the chaotic shelter environment, so they moved her to a foster home. Another rescue stepped up to take Roberta's buddy, but left poor Roberta behind. We want Roberta to have the same opportunity to have a great life, and were not deterred by her seizures that can be managed and treated.
Roberta is currently being fostered in a home with 2 other dogs by an her awesome foster mom, Tracy. Tracy describes Roberta as a happy girl who loves human companionship, is very affectionate, and wants to stay close by her side. She's crate trained, potty trained, learning to sit, and walks well on leash too. She's a playful pup who loves to romp in her larged fenced back yard with her foster siblings, but is pretty laid back when she's inside the home, and all about the snuggle.
Our vets did multiple tests to diagnose the cause of Roberta's seizures, based on her young age, feel certain they are epilepsy related. She's responding well to her new medications, and we are very hopeful and excited about Roberta's future.
7/17/16 - Roberta has been on her medications for a few weeks and is responding very well. It takes time for new medications to work and to figure out the right dosage, but our vet believes that she is on the right track. She will need to stay on the medication for the rest of her life to keep the seizures at bay, and she's only had one seizure in weeks.
9/7/16 - The meds are working! It's been over a month since Roberta has had a seizure, so she's stabilized, and our vet feels great about her progress. She's also been doing some training with her foster mom and the rest of her pack and is fully settled into home life now.
Don't overlook this great pup! Roberta lives her life as a normal, playful, happy dog. She romps and plays every day with her foster dog pals in her backyard, and gets lots of loving from her foster mom too.
