Nitro was rescued from a crowded shelter with little time left. At first he was distracted there due to his high energy level but with some exercise he was able to focus on a person and start to learn. Nitro is very treat motivated and loves playing 'fetch the ball'. He is very athletic strong and smart. He tends to get a bit excited when he first meets another dog but with proper introductions and corrections he calms and is good with the dogs he meets. He will use his paws to try to play which some dogs don't like. This is one of the doggie manners that he needs to learn. He has great potential and is in the process of getting his basic training. He would do well with training for a sport or job. There may be a potential for him as a disc dog since he is agile and can jump high or possibly as detection-type dog. We are looking to find Nitro a home with adults only or possibly with older kids due to his strength and energy. He needs a very experienced guardian/trainer that can give him the exercise that he needs. Previous experience with dogs of this type is a plus. Update January 2016: Nitro has been doing great at our trainer/boarding home. They report that he is very eager to learn and is a fast learner. He loves playing tug-o-toy and fetching balls. Update September 2016: Foster home reports that Nitro is a very well behaved and gentle dog. He is house trained with no potty accidents inside. He is very good on walks and is happy to run alongside a bike on a quiet residential street. He sleeps all night and will be calm when it's time to rest during the day.... but he's always ready to play ball. He tolerates a bath well performs simple tasks for a treat and doesn't guard his food. He likes to chew on his toys and go for long brisk walks/jogs. Few hours of alone time is well tolerated and he will go into his crate when told especially when a treat is the reward. Nitro is smart and wants to be your forever best friend!
