Looking for a sweet, speckled buddy who likes to cuddle and give kisses? Meet Rocky! Rocky ended up at a high kill shelter in Louisiana twice in his short life. He was a volunteer favorite the first time around and everyone was happy when he was adopted by a local family. Sadly he was brought back into the shelter a couple months later as a stray. The adopter no longer wanted him. PAWS of Northeast Louisiana jumped in to rescue this little lovebug and he is now looking for a forever home up north thanks to their partnership with The Chi Society. Rocky is approximately 3 years old and he weighs 13#. He has the most adorable “bat ears” and black and white speckles all over his body. We think he is a Chihuahua x Rat Terrier mix. Rocky is house trained and good with other dogs. He is not destructive when his foster family is away at work and does not have to be crated. Rocky’s foster mom says, “I have never used a crate with him, and never walked him on a leash (although he is fine on leash), as I just let them run free in the backyard. I don't think he knows any tricks, but he will stand for quite a while on his back paws when I offer him a treat. He is awesome with my dog, but has not been around cats. Both dogs share the food and toys, and eat out of the same bowl. I have not noticed an issue with this. As far as personality, he is very playful around us and when we get home in the afternoons, he is happy and always ready for attention. He loves to snuggle, and sleeps under the covers with my adult son. He sleeps all night long and will go straight to the backyard first thing in the morning to do his business. He will give kisses if he really likes you. My favorite thing I think is that is shows his affection to you abundantly! He deserves a great family who will shower him with love.”

Typical of many Chi mixes, Rocky is nervous around strangers. When they come into his home, he will bark at them. If at the vet or a new place, he just shakes. He will need extra time to warm up to new people. We think Rocky would prefer a home with no children or only older (16+) kids. This little guy is totally worth a little extra patience as he learns that his new family is kind and good.

Rocky is neutered, microchipped, current on vaccinations, heartworm negative and current on monthly heartworm/flea prevention.

All of our dogs are spayed/ neutered before adoption. Adult dogs have had their core vaccines---parvo, distemper, bordatella, and rabies, All dogs are tested and are heartworm negative. In addition they have been de-wormed and kept on heartworm prevention and flea prevention while in foster care. Most dogs come with a micr-chip already implanted. Adoption fees range from 235.00- 275.00 depending on the dog. Many times the adoption fee does not even cover the cost of all of the vetting we have done for a dog. In addition, some of our dogs are fostered in the South and come up once adopted---There is an additional transport fee for these dogs. Please contact the person listed in the bio for more information on a particular dog. We are very careful in placing our dogs--and look for the best home for each dog--All of our dogs are fostered in private homes, with fosters who get to know the dogs and know the types of home that would be best for each dog. Thank you for considering a rescued pet and we look forward to helping you find a great dog match--
