RUFFLES is a beautiful blonde 7 year old neutered Cocker Spaniel. He is looking for the perfect couch or bed to cuddle with a like minded owner (or owners). He enjoys belly rubs, slow walks and watching TV. He also loves to play in water!
RUFFLES is afraid of new people and will growl and nip, if approached too quickly. Given a little time, his natural curiosity (and desire for tasty treats) outweighs his fear and he will come to investigate. Let him take a few treats from your hand and he will be begging to be your friend! He would do best in a home without small children. He does well with other dogs, big or small, as long as they are nice to him.
-- personal note: Ruffles' foster mom was initially told to have him EUTHANIZED because he growled and nipped a handler. However, her personal experience with Ruffles is that if he is left alone (ignored), he will come up to a new person looking for affection. He obviously had bad experiences while on the street, so he is fear aggressive when someone comes at him too quickly. Take your time to let him get to know you and you will see a very loving, grateful, sweet boy.
RUFFLES has long, curly blonde fur. His first experience (we assume!) with a groomer didn't go very well. However, his second groomer took the time to let him get to know her and his handler and now he is excited to go get a "bath and trim." When he comes out, he preens around like a peacock and loves to be told that he is a "cutie-patootie" or a "beautiful boy." He needs to be groomed about once every 8 weeks.
RUFFLES was found on the streets of a suburb of Houston, TX. He was in really bad shape; matted, dirty, full of flea colonies, and ticks. Concerned rescuers took their time and were able to get a leash on him, then take him home to be cleaned up. In July 2016, Ruffles tested heartworm negative. He will need to remain on monthly heartworm preventive for the rest of his life.
RUFFLES was microchipped and registered by his previous owner. Unfortunately, calls and emails by the microchip company to his owner were not answered. We do not know how long he was on the streets, nor do we know what happened to his previous owner. We do know the streets were not kind to this sweet boy.
If you have any questions or would like to set up a meet and greet, please contact us at HHFRescue@gmail.com or complete an adoption application at www.HHFRescue.org. Thank you for your interest in adopting a rescued dog.
The adoption fee includes vaccinations, bordetella, deworming, rabies, spay/neuter and microchip. There is an additional $10.99 fee for Home Again for a lifetime registration of the microchip. If adopting a puppy, the rabies and spay/neuter will be done at the same time by our vet once they are 4 months old and billed to us. It is against the law in the State of Texas for a rescue not to be sterilized so we have to make sure it gets completed and that we have record of it.
