Ryan was 11 months around the middle of September. He's an incredibly gorgeous retriever mix who is equally and amazingly smart. Ryan loves to play fetch in the yard and would benefit from an active family who enjoys spending time with him. He hasn't had much structure or training in his prior environment and, and instead of positive reinforcement his former owners used a shock collar. It took several months of positive reinforcement and retraining. Within a half hour with a trainer at the first session, Ryan learned to leave it, 'touch' for a treat, etc. He's so smart he needs someone who continue these types of exercises and games and give his mind a workout. Learning to trust took time. He's done fabulous with learning not to jump with his immediate foster family, but still gets over excited when meeting new people. He'll need continued positive reinforcement and training when he is adopted while he gets used to his new surroundings.. Because he's a big, goofy guy (he'll play ball with himself if the other dogs don't want to play :) ), we do not recommend a home with small children.
