Salem is a lovely big panther with one white toe and just a few sprinkles of white in his glossy black coat. He’s an absolute lovebug, making biscuits on a soft blanket and head-butting his foster mom before settling down to sleep by her shoulder at night. He is a bit of a talker--chirping back to his foster mom as she talks to him while doing daily activities. It’s such a sweet sound. He definitely loves his food—his soft chirps turn into meows as he reminds you that he’s ready for his evening meal of wet food. Once fed, the chirps start over again. He’s also quite a diplomat, having quickly and successfully adapted to life with a small dog and a grumpy cat. He handled the introductions like a star—he was interested but tolerant of the cat and very respectful and wise about approaching the dog. He was immediately comfortable around them, and he quickly made them comfortable with him. He’s active and playful and ever-so happy. He has impeccable litterbox habits, and he’s quickly adapted to using scratching posts. If he wants to play, he sometimes tries to bite or scratch (always in play—never aggressively), so his foster mom is continually reinforcing it with a firm “No” and redirecting his behavior. He is starting to understand that he can’t play rough with people, but his adoptive family would need to ensure that people don’t allow him to play roughly. All in all, he’s an awesome guy, a big, beautiful and VERY sweet kitty that charms everyone he meets! Salem has tested positive for feline leukemia virus (FeLV) so he needs to be in a home with only other positive cats, or as the only cat (dogs are fine!).
