Sam is a German Shepherd mix we picked up at a high kill shelter when he was roughly 2 years old. He wasn't fixed, house trained, or accepting of leash walking. Everyday we'd worked on these skills. He is now able to live in a home with no problems.
He is almost 6 years old and enjoys lounging on the couch all day. My concern is my two young boys. Sam has shown some aggressive tendencies that I'm not sure can be worked out of him. We don't trust him with our newest baby, and worry he may snap one day. Sam would be most comfortable in a home with no kids and no other pets.
I've seen how hard it is to rehome dogs like Sam, but I'm hoping someone out there is willing to open up their heart to a dog well worth it. Sam will show you a fierce amount of loyalty. He will sit on your lap, because he thinks being 55 lbs. means that he's small enough to be a lap dog. He will run long distances, and sprint the short ones faster than any dog at the dog park. He will sleep by your side and protect your home. And he will love you for giving him another chance because he didn't get many chances elsewhere.
I've spent 4 years changing my life around to accommodate him (bigger yard, taller fence, less work for more walks, behavior training, etc.) Unfortunately a baby isn't something you can always teach a dog to be comfortable with after spending the first 2 years in a terrible situation. He has yet to hurt the baby, but we aren't willing to take chances.
We would love to find someone who could give him a good home that lives near us. If it were just the two of us, we would never consider finding a home for him.
Please let me know if you, or anyone you know, would be interested.
