Intake reason: Originally, Scooter came to us as an owner-surrender. His owner worked long hours and didn’t have time for him. He contacted our vet and they contacted us and we agreed to take him in. Shortly thereafter, he was adopted to what we just knew was his forever home. Alas, that was not the case. After about 7 weeks, they contacted us that he was “too rambunctious” for them. They claimed that when their little nieces and nephews came over, he would jump on them and knock them down. They also claimed that he nearly knocked them down getting under foot. They also claim that while walking him, he saw another dog and went ballistic. Interestingly enough, none of that is the case at our rescue. He gets along wonderfully with the other dogs... loves to play... and while when we are in the yard with the dogs, they all tend to jump on our legs... he doesn’t do it any more or less than any other dog. There is always a sadness in a dog’s eyes and in their temperament when they are brought in and especially when they are returned. Thankfully, it doesn’t last long. When taking his pictures... he listened to commands very well. Sitting when we wanted him to sit. Staying when we wanted him to stay, etc. He’s teachable... and he responds well to correction, although his adopters indicated they tried everything and he wouldn’t listen. We believe and studies show that dogs feed off the energy of their owners or the people around them. At our rescue, Scooter is a sweet, playful, fun-loving dog. His adopters also indicated that he would tear up things in his kennel. That is a true statement; however, they said that after that particular night, they tried to get him back in his kennel and he would not respond. Not true. He goes in his kennel at the rescue with a treat each and every time. Since he is destructive with things in his kennel, we place a blanket and rawhide with him in his kennel and he’s fine and goes in willingly each night. Normally, we don’t go into detail when an animal is returned. We basically just explain why they were returned in short and repost them... but this case was different and the reason he was returned was not justifiable to him. He’s a wonderful dog and we know the right home is out there for him somewhere that has the right energy... and until that home comes along, he’s happy and having a blast at our rescue.
*All of our adoptable dogs are small, and they are never to be left outside alone, ever! We only rehome our dogs to adopters that plan to have them as inside dogs and part of the family! We do allow adopters with doggie doors, provided there is SECURE fencing. There is no exception to this rule!
*NO SMALL CHILDREN!! As with almost all the dogs at NR2R, young children or a very active household is not recommended. Many of our dogs come to us BECAUSE of small children, thus we do not rehome our dogs to homes with babies or young children. Even if the children are older, it would depend on the child AND the parent or parents.
*We do not guarantee that any of our adoptable dogs are housetrained. While most should be easily trained, keep in mind that they live in a rescue where they have access to the outdoors all day and are inside at night. Even if they were surrendered to us as housetrained, it doesn’t mean they will automatically be housetrained in your home. Housetraining them should be easy in the right home with time, patience, and consistency.
*We do not guarantee the age, health or temperament of any of the dogs we rehome. Many of the dogs we take in come from animal control and rarely do we have histories and even when we do, many times the histories are inaccurate.
*Only adopters with a responsible dog ownership history and excellent vet reference need apply. If you bring this pet into your heart and home, you will receive in return many years of love, companionship, and loyalty. That’s our guarantee.
Other notes: This pet is available for adoption through Ninna’s Road to Rescue, Benton, La. We are 501c3 non-profit organization. Our mission is to rescue small-breed dogs and a handful of cats and to re-home them into RESPONSIBLE and CARING forever homes. To apply to be approved to adopt, please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org for an adoption application.
Time may be of the essence if you are looking to adopt a specific animal. We do not reserve animals, unless and until we have approved your application, provided the animal is still available at the time we receive your application. The first APPROVED application we receive will be considered. We are NOT a first come, first serve rescue!! We adopt our rescues out to the RIGHT home, not just A home. Only responsible pet owners need apply.
Applying to adopt does NOT commit you to the adoption until you’ve met the pet (unless you already have).
