Sir Charlie

Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler

Medium  |  Male

Garden City, NY

I’m Sir Charlie! Everyone calls me “Sir” because I am a distinguished guy, but you can just call me Charlie.

Before you read any further, check out the videos of me playing fetch. I am faster than my foster siblings!

Now, a little bit about myself! I’m a 13-year-old, 50 lb cattle dog/beagle mix who is looking for a new lease on life. 13 is too old you say? Did you watch my video? I am still very active!!

I haven’t had the easiest path up until now, as I was tied outside on a chain for most of my life. Lucky for me the folks at ACDRA believed I had many good years left in me. They rescued me from the shelter and sent me to a big farm with four other ACDs and my new foster Dad to wait for my fur-ever home.

I am a very happy and spry boy with a positive outlook on life. No one told me that dogs my age are supposed to be relaxed and chill. I enjoy acting just like my foster siblings half my age! In fact, I am enjoying so many new experiences: living in a home with a family, learning to play with the other dogs, going on walks and hikes, swimming in the pond, sleeping on a soft, warm bed, playing fetch, and getting kisses from everyone who meets me. My favorite activity is following my foster Dad everywhere, including during the times when he is tooling around on a big, loud orange machine (tractor) or riding a big, scary brown creature with a long tail (horse).

My foster Dad thinks my communication skills are kind of funny. Even when I am snuggling and getting hugs and kisses, I growl even though my tail wags constantly! He thinks I would prefer to be the only dog and not share him at all, but I do get along pretty well with my foster siblings. I may be part beagle owing to my big, floppy ears, nose constantly on the ground, and my propensity to wander. Every evening he finds me out in the front pasture waiting by the fence for his truck to pull in the driveway. For this reason, he thinks my new home needs to be fenced, although I certainly won’t be able to jump over anything so it doesn’t have to be high. I am a bit obsessed with cats and will need to go to a home without them. I may be a bit too grumpy to be around small children because I do not like it when humans tug and push on me.

My foster Dad also thinks I’m very smart. He has me doing lots of funny new activities like “sit” and “come”. I oblige as long as there is a treat involved! In sum, I’m a distinguished older gentleman who would like a loving family to call my very own for my golden years. Doesn’t every loyal dog deserve that?

Charlie is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and flea/tick preventatives, heartworm negative, and microchipped—whatever all that means!

Charlie is being fostered in Adamstown, MD.
