When we first spotted this homeless momma dog, she was crossing a busy road and looked so thin and was clearly nursing.
We just so happened to have a rotisserie chicken in the car since we were supposed to be catching a different dog so pulled over to see how she'd react. Fortunately she came towards us instead of running away!
She feverishly ate the chicken and canned food. We didn’t see any sign of the puppies in the immediate area so were hoping she'd lead us to them as we couldn’t take her and leave them behind. We tried following her but when we saw her lack of street skills and that she was heading up the entrance ramp to the Interstate, it was time to get a leash on her. Fortunately she cooperated and we also had a long lead so attached that to give her more room to navigate the streets and eventually she led us to her puppies who were located about a mile away!
When we got close to the house, the puppies poured out from under the porch as they were so excited to see their momma! We named her Siri in honor of her navigation skills :)
The neighbors told us that Siri’s family had moved away and left her behind. The man who lived in the house then started looking after her but he was currently incarcerated so the neighbors had been caring for her. The niece told us she called seeking help for the precious family so we’re glad we were in the right spot at the right time and were able to rescue them!
Siri & the gang have thrived in foster care and her puppies have all been adopted.
We were a little worried that Siri would be bummed when her puppies moved out but she hit it off with the other dogs in her foster home and quickly became BFF with another former street dog, Missy. They absolutely adore each other and love to play.
Siri is also really cuddly with her foster family - she's a 50 lb lap dog who loves to give kisses.
