Hi Everyone, I’m Smokey! I am an interesting Cattle Dog, since they tell me I’m a German Shepard/ACD mix, whatever that means! I’m between 3-4 years old! I just know it means that I am much bigger than my foster brother, at 65 pounds. Unlike most ACDs, I’m a pretty chill guy, and I love lounging around the house with my people.
I like other dogs enough, and seem to get along with most. My foster brother gets a little jealous, but that’s okay, I understand that I’m the cutest and get most of the attention, which makes him pretty mad! I’m housetrained now, and I definitely let you know when I have to go! I like to stand by the door to tell you that I need to go. Since I was found as a stray, I LOVE food. My foster mom feeds me from a muffin pan, since she says it helps me slow down. All I know is that I love food and I will do anything for a treat!!
I’m really great with kids, since my foster-grandma has a daycare. I love to get pets, and I know those little kids will give me lots of attention. I have a strong prey drive, so it’s probably best if I don’t have a home with small animals.
My dream home is a quiet, laid back household with someone who is home a good amount of the time. You see, I have this thing with cars. When I was found as a stray, the vet told us that I have two pins in my right back leg, since a car hit me. My leg doesn’t really slow me down, but my mom said it makes me sit a little funny. I also have to watch my weight, so I don’t put extra stress on my leg. After being hit by one, I have some aggression and anxiety around cars, which means that I need some training to get over that. My foster mom and dad have been working with me on that, and they say I’ve gotten better. That’s why I would do best in a house on a quiet street, so I don’t get over-stimulated!
I’m a good boy and don’t jump on people entering the house, since I know if I’m good I’ll get a treat!
I know some tricks, and I will do ANYTHING for treats. I can sit, lay down, and give paw. We are working on stay, but I love to be near my people and am a little Velcro, so it takes a lot for me to stay where I am. I am crate trained, and I stay in my crate during the day while my foster parents are at work, since it is safe. When my foster mom tells me to go in my crate, I go like a good boy, since I know I will get a treat! I would definitely benefit from further training and obedience classes to help me bond with my new family.
