Adult Male Shiba
Sumo is a red sesame 2 yo neutered male Shiba mix. We believe he may be mixed with Siberian Husky. He is current on vaccines, crate trained and very energetic. He came to us nervous/anxious, but with the help of anti anxiety meds and plenty of exercise, he has improved tremendously. We are looking for calm/quiet homes with owners that can continue working with him by providing a lot of exercise and very clear rules. He needs a strong leader who is patient and can continue working with him, possibly under the guidance of a dog trainer. He does get along with dogs, and has lived with children, but we would prefer a home without young children or other dogs as the calm environment will help him relax.
Sumo was surrendered to us a few months back due to his barking/aggressive behavior. As a young pup, he was sent off to a dog training facility and we're pretty sure that the training might have been too tough for a sensitive Shiba. He is wary of strangers and can be nervous/anxious. We've figured out a OTC solution so that we can start working on socialization and fear based aggression. For now, we know that he is not hypothyroid (blood work came back perfect), and we have seen some improvement on the medications. He often uses bullying techniques like barking and snapping to intimidate and get his way. However, we have made great strides in correcting this behavior. He now goes to daycare and is listening better to commands.
Sumo is 40 lbs (a big guy). He is already neutered, current on vaccines, crate trained and house trained (potty trained). After e month and a half that we have had him, he was completely leash trained and walks nicely beside you.
If you enjoy hiking and long walks and are looking for a Shiba companion, please contact us. If you have had experience with a dominant Shiba or Japanese breed, please be sure to let us know in your application. We are requesting that applications be completed for Sumo. http://www.savingshibasinc.org/adopt.html
The Shiba-Inu is a primitive breed, and a living national monument in their native Japan. They are not very affectionate dogs, but are extremely loyal to their family/owner. Similar to the Japanese Akita because of their appearance and fierce loyalty, Shiba-Inus are a great breed to adopt because they are small-sized dogs that are smart and loyal. They are also known to be escape artists and door-bolters. Adopters who have previously owned or are accustomed to this breed will be considered.
Adoption Fee $350
