TANNER IS NOW AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!!
Tanner is a 6-year-old neutered sable male and weighs 18 pounds. He came from the Sheltie hoarding situation in Springfield, MO last year (the "Springfield 64") and has been in rescue with us for a little over a year (see the story from April 2015 here - http://www.carerescue.org/64shelties). As a result of the hoarding environment, Tanner had significant issues being fearful and shy due to never being properly socialized. Although still shy, he has made excellent progress in his foster home. Tanner has learned to walk nicely on leash and is housebroken. He is taken outside to potty every 3-4 hours, not staying outside long, wanting to return inside quickly. He is also crate trained, but prefers to roam loose with the other dogs. He shows very good eye contact and listens. He likes to be close to his foster parents, going wherever they go. Tanner prefers his foster parents to sit on the floor when interacting with him. He will take food occasionally from their hands and touches his foster parents, but is reluctant to be touched by them. Tanner shows interest in toys and likes to play with his foster brothers and sisters.
Tanner will need another confident dog in his forever home. He is a work in progress regarding touching and petting and his new parents will need to have a quiet home and be very patient with him. Adopter must have experience with shy dogs or shy dog training. Tanner is up to date on his vaccines and recently had a dental. Only homes with a securely fenced yard will be considered. No children under 12. Due to his shyness, we will only place him in a home in the St. Louis area.
