Meet Tori! Tori is a sweet little lady. She was found as a stray with her two sisters and two moms. Yes, two moms! The three kittens were well cared for by their moms, and have had human contact from a very early age. The moms are extremely social, and have passed on those traits to the kittens. Tori is a little nervous in new situations, but she will cuddle up when she is picked up. She loves to play with the other kittens and will come running when the treat container is shaken :) Here is the story of Tori and her family: On July 2nd, a stray cat showed up at the house of one of our volunteers. Feeling that she had found the best B&B in town, the next day she brought her whole family: another cat and three kittens! The family of five was taken in, went to the vet, and settled into their new life in a foster home. Both of the adult cats were nursing the three kittens, who were estimated to be about 7 weeks old, at the time. The cats were given names: Mama Emma, Mama Sadie, Tori, Callie and Dot. Fast forward a few days. KGARL was contacted about a litter of six, one-week old, orphaned kittens. Since we had two nursing mothers, we decided to bring in the babies, as well! It took a few days to work out the system, but now, both Emma and Sadie feed the orphaned kittens! It is quite the sight to see. Emma and Sadie make a great team, and Tori, Callie, and Dot happily shared their moms with the little ones :)

Non-profit Animal Rescue Groups
501(c)3 animal rescue groups will need to ensure the correct documentation is on file with the KGAC prior to pulling animals. KGAC will require a 501(c)3 determination letter, and No Cruelty Disclosure statement to be faxed (540-775-5770), as per Virginia standards. The No Cruelty Disclosure statement must be on the rescue organization's official letterhead and signed by a head officer of their organization. The No Cruelty Disclosure statement will need to confirm that no one in the organization has been convicted of animal cruelty. Once documentation is approved by KGAC, the rescue will be eligible to pull animals from the shelter.
