Vayda (aka Velvet) is a small “Pocket Shepard” at about 38 pounds. She is a sweet, submissive, timid little girl who lived her life high on a rural hill on a South Dakota Indian Reservation. In her short 13 months of life she never knew human touch, living inside or how to be a pampered pooch. Vayda had a litter of pups about 5-6 months ago and is now spayed. She is slowly learning to trust people and is especially fond of her foster dad who she loves to wrestle with right before bed every night. She is crate trained (although, puts up a big stink to get in the crate, but once in, is quiet as can be) and she is fully potty trained. She does not go to the back door to signal that she needs to go outside to potty but yet relies on the other dogs in the home to do that for her. She would thrive best with other dogs in the home to help make her feel safe and continue to show her how to be ‘dog’. She submissive to all other dogs no matter if they are big or small. She loves to “lick and dash”, which is her way of licking your hand and then bolting… it’s like “express drive-thru love”. She is now coming up to us looking for affection a little more but does like to hang out under the table or coffee table quite a bit. She does have a cute, quirky personality and loves to make funny noises and ‘talk’ to us when we talk to her. She does great with the 3 kids in her foster home and always very gentle. Walking on a leash is a work in progress. The leash and the big world outside scare her and we are trying to build her confidence on short walks with lots of rewards. She loves to hang out in the back yard and would do best with a fenced yard as her recall is only effective if she trusts completely. Vayda is pretty mellow in the house and LOVES dinner time and prefers to eat while laying down even. With continued work and a dog that is a leader in the home, she will shine bright. She is one of those dogs that is worth it when she looks up at you with such sincere eyes and thanks you for her new lease on life.
