A volunteer writes: Venus, the goddess of love and beauty...I can see why the lovely and delightful gal now in our care was given that name. Venus is a very attractive and lively middle-aged lady endowed with a perfect figure, elegantly dressed and blessed with a most engaging smile and welcoming nature. Venus is the poster child for `Family Dog`. Indeed, she was owned since tender puppyhood by the same humans, lived and played with many children of various ages and mingled harmoniously with a Shih Tzu and a cat. She would be house trained (verified by us), love baths, be a good girl when left alone in the house, and free of any handling issues. Her former owner (too ill to care for a pet anymore) loved how mellow and friendly Venus is. Venus is already appreciated by many here at the care center. She is well mannered, easy going, a great walker, polite with her peers, very interactive, friendly and affectionate. All the wonderful qualities we staff and volunteers LOVE to see in a pooch. She enjoys her strolls in the park, an occasional squirrel chase and a treat, for which she will sit graciously. She is an enthusiastic lap dog and will plant her forelegs on my knees while profusely kissing my face. Middle-aged dogs are so often overlooked in shelters, and yet they are a great and smart choice for adopters. Many are house trained and properly leash-trained. They have a good idea of what''s right or wrong...and how things work...(wisdom comes with age and experience). They do not need extraordinary effort beside casual walks and cuddling. They are calmer, more poised and focused than their younger counterparts. Their balanced temperament in a shelter environment is often the way they naturally are (what you see is what you get). They are usually instant companions, not needing so much time to settle in their new life as you give them shelter, care and genuine love. Have I convinced you yet? I hope I did. Come and meet our Venus. She will charm you with her looks, congeniality and liveliness. She so would love to be your friend...for ever.
