Veruca Salt

Domestic Short Hair

Medium  |  Female

Purr Monster, Affectionate, Snuggler Veruca Salt has a LOUD purr motor and a cute orange tabby pattern! She's one of those rather uncommon female orange tabbies; the majority of orange tabbies are male (it's about an 80/20 split, according to anecdotal research). Regardless, this kitten loves to be loved, and will come running so you can pet her. Get her overly-excited (especially by scratching her under the chin and along her cheeks), and she may give you a love nip. Veruca Salt has tested positive for Feline Leukemia (FeLV). It is possible for kittens six months and younger to shed this virus completely and test negative, so she will be re-tested for FeLV at her six month birthday, at which time a definitive diagnosis can be assured. Until then, she should live with no other cats or kittens to ensure the virus is not passed. Veruca Salt is available for adoption now to adopters who can accommodate a feline leukemia positive, or negative, cat as she is not yet of age to have a definitive test. FeLV causes a weakened immune system and requires special care. APA! provides some medical assistance after adoption. Cats with FeLV typically have a shortened lifespan. It is not contagious to people or dogs, but an FeLV+ kitty should live only with other FeLV+ cats. For more information, please contact APA! or read more by our Partner, Best Friends Animal Society: http://bestfriends.org/Resources/FAQs-About-Feline-Leukemia-Virus-FeLV/ Veruca Salt has grown up with her siblings, and even made fast friends with another foster kitten, though she gave him the cold shoulder at first. She is cool with the dogs in her foster home, despite the fact they get a little huffy when she sniffs them! She hasn't been around any children yet. Veruca Salt plays with her kitten pals and toys all day - especially balled-up paper, stuffed mice, and crinkle toys - and then she collapses for a well-earned snooze. She knows to use the scratching pad and not the furniture. Veruca Salt would be great in a home with another cat to socialize and play with! Contact us today to set up a meet & greet.
All APA! cats are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and have updated vaccines and a microchip. Lifetime support is offered by our Cat Behavior Team. For further information or to meet this kitty, please email adopt@austinpetsalive.org.
