DOB appx June 1, 2009, this is a DSH smoke torbie manx female. Yes she has a little stubby tail, and she is a smoke (charcoal color) tabby, with some beige stripes, so she's a torbie! Awesome & rare coloring! Look at her cute little stubby tail in the pictures, it's only about an inch long!

As a kitten, she was crossing the street between two restaurants and got hit by a car at 45 mph (on Clearlake Rd, Cocoa).
She completely healed after her surgery to fix her diaphragmmatic hernia. Her shattered leg surgery was done 8/21/09. We had to keep her quiet while it healed. Then we sent her back for a checkup and they spayed her. She's all healthy now and has no limp!

Note: due to her surgery she does not get 'up' on things like the countertops! She had a FHO (Femoral Head Ostectomy) just like dogs with hip dysplasia have (to remove the head of the femur). In her case the head of the femur was shattered by the car hitting her. It would not heal correctly so FHO was the only option.

Look at her new picture stretched out on the floor after playing....this is a true rescue success story and we couldn't have done it without our great contributors for her surgery. The vet also did not charge us to fix the hernia (which was life threatening).

October 2010: We just had emergency surgery for Widget. Suddenly this fall she began losing weight and we took her in thinking it was due to her mouth (she has a mouth disease called Stomatitis). Instead the vet found a huge fluid-filled cyst in her abdomen...the vet thinks it is just now showing up (latent) from the original trauma.

So, instead of having mouth surgery as expected, Widget was immediately hospitalized, had xrays, and surgery to remove as much of the cyst as they could. It will likely come back.

Also, her liver is adhered to the abdominal wall so it is considered abnormal.

She came home after 2 days in the hospital and is doing okay so far. Of course her morphine helps with the pain.

These unexpected veterinary csts were $800.
UPDATE: WIdget's cyst tissue was sent off to determine where the cysts were coming from and the results were as expected: liver and diaphragm. The explanation is: there must have been pieces floating around after the accident in her abdomen. We will have to monitor and drain as needed but the vet says it will not grow quickly. Widget is recovered and eating like mad because for so long her stomach was invaded by this cyst so she could not eat a full meal!
See Widget's new picture - she is sitting in front of an a/c return. This was made just before her mouth surgery.
January 2011 update: By the end of December Widget was showing some mouth pain (running from the food bowl) because it hurt to eat, her mouth is now the emergency. So we rushed her in and had her mouth surgery done. Her teeth were so bad they were being reabsorbed by her body, so the vet had to remove all her molars. Widget was again on a morphine patch and eating well (soft food only to start). She still has canines (fangs) and the little tiny teeth in front called "incisors". Her surgery this time was $700.83.
Both surgeries have been paid off thanks to our ebay fundraising efforts and foster mom donations! Thanks to our volunteers for keeping up with our ebay sales....
Widget is eating pretty well (carefully) 3 weeks after the surgery. Still mainly on soft food.
Update April 2011 - Widget is doing pretty well now, eating dry and canned food.
May 2011 - She is doing great and is now out and about a bit more, I think most of her pain is gone. Yay!
August 2011 - Widget is doing GREAT. She's up to weight and eating fine. Now we just monitor her and have the vet check her mouth in a few months to see if it is completely healed.
Widget is now completely healed and is ready to go to a new home. She is very shy so typically it takes her a few weeks to warm up to new folks.
