Visit to learn more about Willie.
Willie is a 30-pound mix breed. He has had a rough life before coming to AEAR. What we know is that he was in a shelter in another state where there was a tornado that ripped the shelter literally out of the ground. The animals scattered all over the place. The ones that survived, Willie being one of town, were found and transported to far away shelters.
Willie ended up at a shelter in Illinois and was adopted after a period of time to a family with kids. He was very skittish at first and unsure. Who could blame him? Over time he warmed up and fell in love with the whiole family.
After a year the man went into financial problems and ended up losing his house. In searching for a home for Willie before he had to move he went into a copy store and met a woman.
They struck up a conversation and she said she would take Willie. He gave her Willie a few days later (this is all by his account).
Three days later Willie found himself dumped at a local animal control facility. His history was traced back by his rabies tag. The woman from the copy store dropped him off and made up a big lie about how she obtained Willie.
So...Willie went into a foster home through us. He is currently living with another dog and two kids and a man and woman. He's been slow to warm up and unsure but each day gets better and better.
Willie needs a patient and understanding family that will allow him to take his time warming up and trusting again.
Willie is a very shy guy looking to be someone's best friend. He would love to have a fenced back yard where he could feel the grass between his toes and nap in the sun. He has wonderful leash manners and table manners. Willie is very scared of everything that makes a noise and terrified of storms. He is good with all sizes of dogs, warms up to adult females easier than males and is ok with older kids. Willie need someone with lots of patients and willing to give him all the time needed to relax and feel at home. A house with another dog would be great as he seems to take queue from his furry friends on who he can trust. He has "sad" eyes but will smile when he is excited.
His personality is coming out and he really is a fun dog
Is a shoe chewer, big time
Doesn't seem to have a favorite type of toy
Super terrified of stormsVisit to learn more about Willie.

All our animals available for adoption are living in foster homes. This gives us the ability to really get to know the animals we have available and find them families that are a good fit for them based on their personalities. We do not have a shelter to visit the animals.
