Hi! I'm in a situation where we're getting another cat but our existing cat doesn't "play well with others." We've had him about 9 months, I got him from an individual on Craigs List so he's always been an indoor cat, never in a shelter, never with other cats. He's a great cat (fixed & declawed but I don't have any records on him), never has had any health, food or litter box problems.
He follows me around like a puppy and wants to be petted but he won't let you pick him up or be held. This is the problem because my kids desperately want to cuddle him. He's friendly enough and begs to be petted but when you pet him, if you don't pet him just exactly the way he wants to be petted (which is a mystery), he will bite. He bit my 13 year old daughter on the arm so badly that it drew blood so now the kids are scared of him.
He seems to prefer men but has bitten my husband also while he was petting him. None of us have ever played rough with him - actually, we're extra cautious - so I don't know what the problem is. He's not scared of us, he never hides and is almost always in the same room as me. He'll stay close but won't tolerate being held.
My mom had her cat at our house for a weekend and we had to keep them separated because our cat hissed at her the whole time so I don't think he would do well in a house with another cat.
We've found another cat that my kids love but I can't bring him into the house with our cat there so I need to find someone who will take him. I'm not sure how old he is - at least 5 years I think. He's a BEAUTIFUL black and white tuxedo with green eyes. Please let me know asap if someone in your organization can foster him. I really don't want to take him to a shelter but the owners of the other cat are pressuring me to pick him up because he's being terrorized by their dog!
