The Kitty Adventure Rescue League & Sanctuary in Fort Worth, Texas, has a new senior resident: Oswald the cat.

He officially moved in on June 21, almost a month after his owners surrendered him to a local shelter. In Facebook post, sanctuary workers wrote that the 20-year-old cat (the equivalent to about 100 years of age for humans) “was surrendered to a shelter without a name or much of a hope.”

Thanks to some wonderful cat warriors, we have a new resident. 20 year old Oswald!

He was surrendered to a shelter…

The feeling of hopelessness stemmed from the cat’s advanced age and health issues, which include dehydration, hair loss, muscle loss and shrunken kidneys, Kitty Adventure Rescue League & Sanctuary owners Karyn and Gerald Poplin told Petcha.com in an email.

“At his age, full recovery is not likely; however, we can make him comfortable and hope for the best,” the Poplins said. “He is currently eating pretty much whatever he wants right now, as well as age-related supplements to ease arthritis, joint pain and dehydration.”

With the hopelessness somewhat dissipated, he was called Oswald.

“His name actually came from the person that transported him from the shelter to me,” Petcha was told. “It was just the perfect name; I couldn’t pass it up!”

(We wouldn’t have passed up on that name either.)

According to the Poplins, Oswald the cat is doing well at the sanctuary.

“He’s very friendly and alert here,” they said. “He wants to know what you’re doing and if he can help. He likes getting underfoot and just overall being in the way. He’s a very sweet old man. He didn’t have any adjustment period; he walked in like he’s been here forever.”

And forever he will be there. The Poplins told Petcha that Oswald will not be up for adoption. The Kitty Adventure Rescue League & Sanctuary is his home now. Sorry to anyone who wished to adopt him! However, if you are interested in helping out, the sanctuary has an Amazon wish list and a PayPal account for those who wish to make donations. The Kitty Adventure Rescue League & Sanctuary relies on donations for all of its operating expenses, the Poplins told Petcha.
