Irina ‘Pina’ Pinkusevich was selected as the Andis Show Dogs of the Year, Groomer of the Year to recognize her significant accomplishments in the world of professional grooming. After seven short years of professional grooming, she has risen to the top as an internationally recognized competitive show groomer. Her numerous awards make her one of the most decorated groomers in the field today.
Irina emigrated with her parents from the Ukraine in 1989. She studied at and graduated from New York University. While attending college, she worked part-time bathing dogs at a local grooming shop. She realized her passion in grooming and left behind her original career to work as a Pet Stylist in some of the most high-end salons in New York.
She entered the world of Competitive and Show Grooming in 2006. In her competitive career, Irina has won multiple Best in Shows and Best All Around Groomer awards. She is a two-time recipient of the Lynn Carver Award for the most Best All Around Groomer Awards in 2008 and 2010. Irina was also honored to win the Liz Paul Memorial Award for the most Best in Show wins in 2010. She has been a member of GroomTeam USA from 2008 through 2012, which means she was ranked among the top 10 groomers in the United States. Ranked number one in the nation for 2008 and 2010, she competed in the World Championships on GroomTeam USA in 2009 and 2011, helping the US team bring home the Gold and Silver medals respectively. She will compete once again this year in Barcelona, Spain, in an effort to once again win Gold. Irina is a National Certified Master Groomer with the National Dog Groomers Association of America. She is also a certifier, national judge and most recently, an international judge in the world of competitive grooming.
Dedicated to improving the industry, Irina is a teacher at Merryfield School of Pet Grooming. She travels the world educating through conferences and seminars. Irina is associated with Kiyara Poodles, one of the top Miniature Poodle kennels in the United States. With Kiyara, Irina has bred and co-owned numerous champions and currently resides in Miami, Fla., with her 10-year-old son Stas and her two dogs, Lucas and Dilly.
