A Small Animal Halloween Costumes Story

When you have photos of a cute hamster, regal rabbit and precious rats in Halloween costume, of course you must tell their Halloween story.

Halloween is a time of fun but also a time of decisions. What costume will you wear? What type of pumpkin design will you carve? What candy should you get? Will you go to that Halloween party?

For pet owners, it prompts another question — should you dress up your pet? Many pet owners pass on sharing this tradition with their pets. But others revel in it, taking care to craft or buy costumes that are safe for pets to wear, never forcing a pet into costume, never keeping costumes on for long and never leaving a costumed pet unsupervised.

Costumed pets can add to the Halloween fun, including small animal pets like hamsters, rabbits and rats. Much of the fun of putting pets in costume is capturing the event in photos or videos to share and enjoy, or even to use to create a Halloween story. Below is Petunia Hamster’s Halloween story.

On a dark, still and cobwebby night, a brave young hamster named Petunia set off to find the spirit of Halloween. She donned her red, hooded cape (which made her look remarkably like Little Red Riding Hood) and awaited release from The Hand.

Before traveling too far, Petunia was startled by the arrival of a strangely attired rabbit.

“I am the Great Pumpkin Rabbit, and I sense that you are on a Halloween quest,” the grand being declared. “Can I help you?”

Petunia stood transfixed, whiskers aquiver, as she gazed upon the splendor of the Great Pumpkin Rabbit. She took a moment to gather her wits before replying.

“Yes. I seek the spirit of Halloween.” Petunia said. “Can you offer me any guidance?”

“Look into my eyes and tell me what you see,” the Great Pumpkin Rabbit declared.

Petunia scooted forward and stared. Suddenly, she saw something.

“I… I see me, but it’s not me. I’m a hot dog!”

Petunia gasped. This could not be happening, could it?

“Wait! Now I’m a ladybug!” Petunia squeaked. The Great Pumpkin Rabbit nodded sagely, willing her to go on.

“The ladybug is gone. Now I’m Godzilla! This is incredible.”

Before Petunia finished speaking another vision flashed before her.

“I’m Super Hammy. That’s me. I’m Super Hammy!”

Petunia blinked and stepped backward.

“What does it all mean?” she stared at the Great Pumpkin Rabbit.

“I think that you know, Petunia. Happy Halloween!” With that final declaration, the Great Pumpkin Rabbit disappeared.

Petunia headed home to be welcomed by The Hand. She pondered her adventures and then gave a hamster smile. She knew what it all meant now. The spirit of Halloween was inside her; there was no need to look for it.

Far above Earth, orbiting in a starship, Spock looked at Kirk. “Captain, I see no logic to this holiday.”

Kirk chuckled and gave a half smile, “They’re just being human.”
