After spending what had to be a terrifying month trapped inside a well in Bosnia, a blind dog named Christmas has been rescued. No one knows how the animal ended up at the bottom of the narrow 24-foot deep well, but the important part is that he’s now free.

Christmas was saved by Fahrudin Caki Bravo — described by ABC News as an “international animal rescuer” — and Ratko Koblar. It took the men just a few minutes to rescue Christmas, but their efficiency doesn’t make their efforts any less remarkable.

A video of the men saving the dog was posted on YouTube by the Harmony Fund, an international rescue organization based in Holden, Massachusetts.

“The dog had been there for months, and they don’t know if he was thrown in, or if he fell in,” Harmony Fund founder Laura Simpson told ABC News. “We’re certainly hoping that he fell, but with the dog being completely blind, he was only kept alive because the local children were kind enough to feed him.”

Simpson said that the dog was in surprisingly good condition, was treated by a veterinarian and is now in a foster home. That’s one Christmas miracle, already in the books.

  • If children were feeding the dog, why did it take so long for it to be rescued?
