What causes bloat in a sugar glider?

Q: My sugar glider is very bloated. He was fine when I was playing with him last night. I haven’t changed anything. What should I do?

A: This condition can be a cause for serious concern; see your veterinarian immediately or find an emergency hospital that will see sugar gliders.

If your glider was fine last night and is showing these signs now, there likely is a problem in the intestinal tract. This could be a blockage, which, if not treated immediately, will lead to death. This could be gas bloating, which is very painful. This could also be fluid in the abdomen, which is a sign of serious disease.

It’s impossible to know what is wrong with your sugar glider without a physical examination and possibly radiographs.
