Golden Retriever, Miniature

The world’s first Miniature Golden Retriever was bred by Kathy Burgess at GoldenQuest in 2003. The breed was developed in Nicholasville, near Lexington, Ky. She wanted everybody to enjoy the joy of a Golden Retriever but knew the breed was too big for some. Kathy decided to downsize the breed so everybody could enjoy a Golden. She called her dogs “Comfort Retrievers” because they were a comfortably sized Retriever. The Miniature Golden Retriever is a breed composed of the Golden Retriever and Poodle. Since the development of the breed, other breeders have appeared and have added English Cocker Spaniel, American Cocker Spaniel, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and even more breeds to their breeding programs. If you are considering a Miniature Golden Retriever, ask what breeds the breeder uses so you know what breed characteristics to expect. The breeds that have Golden Retriever and Poodle offer increased intelligence, increased longevity, hypoallergenic coats and decreased shedding traits.
