Hallmark Channel has adopted a cat named "Happy" to promote shelter pets.

The Hallmark Channel’s kindness toward rescue animals is making pets, and folks like me who love them, very … well, “Happy.” That is the name of both a cat and a dog that the network has adopted as their Pet Ambassadors, who will promote pet adoption.

Bill Abbott , president and chief executive officer of Crown Media Family Networks, adopted the dog and cat last year, and he is making them spokespets for the company’s Pet Project initiative. That project shares the joys that animals bring to our lives every day.

We have seen this animal focus in a lot of Hallmark television programming in recent years, including the “Kitten Bowl,” “Paw Star Game” and the upcoming “Ultimate Kitten Summer Games” planned for 2016. The Happys — also called Ambassadors of Paws-itivity — will celebrate Be Kind to Animals Week, held May 3 to 9.

The feline Happy is a 3-year-old orange tabby, and the dog, the newest member of the furry family, is in training to become a therapy dog. Look at their photos on the website. Aren’t they just the cutest things?

I have to wonder, though, what kind of household confusion it creates when you yell “Happy,” and both a cat and dog come running!
