The former Baltimore Ravens cheerleader and current Marketing Coordinator at Charm City Veterinary Hospital was looking for a feline companion for her 6-year-old cat when she and her boyfriend came across Tigger, a 21-year-old ginger abandoned by his former owner.
“We looked at each other and we were like, ‘We’re taking that cat,’” Buisch told The Baltimore Sun. “When we brought him home that night it was like he never forgot what it was like to have pillows and blankets.”
At first introduction, Tigger had matted fur and was underweight; but with prescription food and a shave, the cat thrived – growing healthily plump and sprouting thick, plush fur. All was well until the water-guzzling began. Under Buisch’s watchful eye, she observed Tigger drinking up to a gallon of water a day, and, after a series of lab tests, discovered his kidneys were failing. A few months ago, another heartbreaking discovery: a tumor the size of a golf ball.
With each day possibly his last, Buisch and her boyfriend have made it a mission to take Tigger on as many memorable adventures as they possibly can before his time is up. On November 27, the couple took Tigger to the beach, allowing him hours to lounge in the sand, and get his toes wet in the salt water. For Christmas they’ll all be visiting Florida for the holidays. They even have an ugly sweater family picture planned!
“We just think of random things when we feel like doing something,” Buisch said. “We’re completely attached at this point.”
