Cat Cafe Temporarily Closes After All Of Its Cats Are Adopted

The Catfé in Vancouver is scheduled to reopen today, with a new group of adoptable cats.

There seem to be two crucial components to a successful cat cafe: cats and coffee.

Although Vancouver’s month-old Catfé has plenty of java to pour for its patrons, it has temporarily run out of cats! In a widely shared Facebook post, the Catfé wrote that it had to close for several days this week after a number of its cats were adopted by cafe customers.

When it is at full cat-pacity (sorry), the Catfé has between eight and 12 adoptable cats who have been provided by the British Columbia SPCA. But over the past three weeks, 11 of the cafe’s cats have found new homes, which left it with no choice but to close until it could welcome a few new cats into its cozy-looking location.

“Obviously, we were hoping not to have to be closed,” Catfé’s excellently named owner Michelle Furbacher told the CBC. “We want the cats to get adopted, but we also want to have a space where you can just go hang out with the cats even if you’re not necessarily looking to adopt.”

The Catfé was scheduled to re-open today but, even if you happen to be in Vancouver, you may not have a chance to welcome the new arrivals. The cafe has proven to be so popular, it has had to take reservations for the 16 spots in its cat lounge area. If you do get to visit, you might leave with both a caffe mocha — and a cat — to go.
