Lesson One: It’s a cat’s duty to accompany their humans every time they use the bathroom.

Kittens should know the ways of the room with the forbidden water bowl.

When an older cat finds himself in the company of a kitten, he takes on the role of mentor, educating the young feline on the ways of cathood and the responsibilities that come with living with humans. The lessons are of friendship, dogs and, of course, major sporting events. They’re also regarding the bathroom. Or, as the older cat puts it in the “Dear Kitten” video Purina Friskies posted to YouTube in January, “the room with the forbidden water bowl.”

The older cat begins his lesson by informing the kitten that it is their duty to join their human every time she enters the bathroom. Every time. The reason? The older cat says it’s to remind humans “to stand up every once in awhile.” (Yes, it’s quite possible we would forget were it not for our cats.)

The mentor shares with his protégé how he attempted to mimic his human’s toilet activities, though, sadly, he did not succeed… mainly because he cannot absorb the water through his bum the way we humans can, he says.

Then there’s the “butt paper.” The older cat informs the kitten that it is not much good for eating, but great for claws and wrapping yourself in. And to the older cat, there is nothing better than butt paper.

Clearly, knowing the ways of the room with the forbidden water bowl is very important to a cat.
