A clever cat found the cold storage area where the fish was stashed.

It’s summer and nothing beats the heat like a cool treat. Like a frozen fish pop, mmmm.

At least that’s what one calico cat must have thought when she figured out how to open the freezer and snack on the frozen fish within, a YouTube video shows. Lux the cat’s adventures were posted a couple of years ago but the video is back in heavy rotation, maybe because the hot months of summer are upon us and this cat looks like a master of cooling down.

She’s also a mindful thief. Her roll is slow. She casually hops on top of the freezer, sniffs around, chews a few random objects. Kind of hangs out there. You might not know what she’s up to.

Then she ups her game and opens the freezer door with a little paw push and oh so carefully climbs down and right on in to the freezer. That’s where the motherlode of fish resides, and that’s where Lux takes a taste of victory.

And for this cat, victory tastes like frozen fish.

  • Yuck, that fridge sure has a lot of unhealthy junk in it. Ice cream, hot dogs and salmon …a heart attack or stroke in the making!

    • Oh, for heaven’s sake!! Most folks have all kinds of yummy things in their freezer. Sure, some folks need to eat “Heart Healthy,” “Sugar Free,” or have other dietary restrictions, but even they find ways to eat yummy things!! My step-mother is a “Registered Nurse,” she says everyone has to eat “Regular Food” sometimes or go crazy!!

  • That is one EXTREMELY clever little cat! Good on her!
I recommend that her people invest in another form of closure for their ‘fridge”…
Or, teach Lux to remember to close the door.

    Bravo, Lux! Good girl!

    • And some people think animals can’t reason things out 🙂 They just don’t know animals, I guess! This kitty, my cats, and your GSD – and so many others – prove them wrong 😉

    • We know that Kitty is being taped by someone, so she/he’s safe. And very smart 🙂
But I would be a bit concerned about unsupervised visits to the freezer.

We have our entire home toddler-proofed for our cats. Because we all know they’re forever in the Terrible Twos stage <3 and get into mischief every day 🙂

  • I’m just glad she didn’t get stuck in there and suffocate and/or freeze to death!

    • I was thinking the same thing. If there was more open space she might have jumped into the freezer giving the door space to close on her. I hope the owner gets a strip of Velcro to secure it.

  • Very clever kitty…but I would be very apprehensive about having a cat invade a refrigerator so readily…why? Because the doors can be weighted to close, even on today’s cheap modern refrigerators…she could get closed in…I say keep your kitty out of refrigerators and cat-proof it, even if it seems cute that they can open the freezer or the fridge door.

  • Dangerous the plastic covering the fish could give her a bowel obstruction or she could have choked, the refrigerator has to be made cat proof ASAP.

  • Sure, danger needs to be avoided for the kitty, but the video is charming & Lux is soooo smart & precious!!

  • Yes, that is really cute, but REALLY dangerous too. There are things you can put on the door to keep locked. God forbid the cat get locked in the icebox.
