Cat Relationship Tense Due To New Haircut

“Damn, cat, ya look weird.”

It's hard to sport a new look sometimes.

If you ever want an honest opinion on how a new haircut looks, ask a cat. You won’t get benign non-compliments like, “Heyyy, you. You got a new haircut, didn’t ya?” or “Wow, look at that hairstyle. That’s something!” You’ll get the utter, sometimes-ugly truth.

That’s what we’ve learned from a video that’s circulating again on YouTube. In the video titled “A failed experiment in cat shaving,“ user Matt Hagen shows longhaired tortoiseshell Luna voicing her opinion on the fresh look of her similarly coated brother, Jasper, after the dilute ginger had gotten a lion cut.

Luna disapproves. How can you tell? The constant hissing that comes out of her mouth every time she sees the shaved cat.

This is in stark, sad contrast to their previous interactions, which consisted of mutual grooming and super cuddles. It makes them look like the best of friends in the opening clips to the video.

Post-clip, however, relations are strained. Jasper can’t go anywhere near Luna without hearing about how $%&@y she thinks his haircut is.

To balance it out, it seems, there is only one solution: shave ‘em both. Eventually we see Luna show up with the head full of mane and boots with the fur but not much hair elsewhere.

Sure, it balances it. But it doesn’t make things much better. Now they simply can’t look at each other. And that’s how you know you’ve gotten a bad cut.

  • What a terrible thing for an owner to do ! It makes me sick. I do not see anything ‘funny’ about this.

  • I had my kitty shaved for several reasons: the hot weather, his long fur made it difficult for him to wash, and a skin infection on his back near his tail. He has been more active since his ‘haircut’. Since none of my cats like each other anyway, it made no difference to the others how he looked. It was the ‘vet smell’ they >really< didn't like.
