Many vets might have given up on Duchess the cat but doctors at one animal hospital wouldn’t quit on this brave feline.

Duchess the Miracle cat’s broken jaw permanently shifted her smile but it made the cat’s facial expression even more endearing, as photos from her Facebook page prove. Her story shows an early struggle followed by being brought in to a forever family.

According to her Facebook page, the former stray cat came to the Adobe Animal Hospital in El Paso, Texas, after being hit by a car. The accident broke her jaw in addition to injuring her across her body.

“Most places would’ve just euthanized her, but by some miracle Duchess got lucky,” a post reads. Vets repaired her jaw, wiring it back in place as best they could and removing her teeth.

Recovery took nearly a month. She relied on a feeding tube and medication and although her chances of survival were low, “she was a fighter and pulled through.”

Her forever family found her soon after her recovery. She still needs further care, and has a GoFundMe account to help with necessary expenses for a full recovery, but now it sounds like she runs the house, like your average bold housecat.

“She has been a part of our family for 3 weeks now and she walks around like she’s owns the house, sitting where she pleases and drooling wherever she goes,” a post lovingly reads. “She loves cuddling and laying on her humans and trying to steal our food. We are still learning her quirks and helping her live her new life but we wouldn’t have it any other way ❤️.”

We bet Duchess wouldn’t either.
