Like PB&J, these two.

They found love in a hopeless place.

Cheetah cub Kumbali and Kago the puppy both had a rough start in life — neither one had a family to love and care for them. But now they’ve found a family in each other at the Metro Richmond Zoo in Moseley, Virginia.

Kumbali was born the runt of the litter and, at 2 weeks old, began losing weight, according to a YouTube video posted Tuesday by the zoo. Zoo staff determined that his mother wasn’t producing enough milk for him and his two siblings, so they decided to take matters into their own hands and started bottle-feeding the little cub. Being hand-raised by humans meant that Kumbali wouldn’t be able to be reintroduced to his family, since his mother would perceive him as a threat. So once Kumbali was old enough to begin exploring and playing in his surroundings, the zoo set out to find him a companion.

Enter Kago. The Labrador mix puppy was living at a high-kill shelter in Alabama when he was rescued by a non-profit group named The Art of Paws. At 10 weeks old, he was brought to the zoo as a potential buddy for Kumbali.

Their first friend date was predictibly awkward.

Because Cheetahs tend to be more on the anxious side and dogs are more confident and happy, this pairing seems to be a match made in interspecies heaven.
