Fans of the metal band Metallica donated more than 9 tons of non-perishable food for abandoned pets and hungry children during the band’s November 1 concert in Bogota, Colombia. Metallica publicized the suffering of the children and pets in the La Guajira region, where many of the country’s indigenous Wayuu peoples live.

According to the website Consequence Of Sound, the Lords of Hardwire, a group of Colombian Metallica fans, communicated to the band the plight of the people and animals in the largely desert region of the country.

They say that more than 3,000 children have died of malnutrition during the last eight years and countless abandoned animals have suffered.

The band worked with the Challenger Foundation and the animal charity Corazones Peluditos (Furry Hearts). According to Blabbermouth.net, more than 25,000 fans attended the concert where the nearly 10 tons of non-perishable food were donated. Kudos to the Lords of Hardwire, for letting Metallica know about what has been going on in the La Guajira region of Colombia, and to the band, for asking for food donations prior to their concert in Bogota.
