Cops and kittens may not seem like a logical pairing, but all it takes is one adorable duo to change your mind.

South Carolina police officer Cody Garrett was working the late shift alongside another officer who, while responding to a call, heard the unmistakable sounds of a kitten crying from underneath a nearby Dumpster, he told BuzzFeed News.

The kitten was then taken back to the station, and when nobody else claimed her, Garrett chose to take her home.

“I don’t know why they didn’t want it, but I offered to take it,” Garrett told BuzzFeed.

He already had another cat at home named Toothless, who had recently given birth to her own litter of kittens, so he thought this teeny, tiny orange tabby would fit right in. And boy, did she ever.

When he first put the kitten down, she let out a trail of yellow poop, giving her the name, “Squirt.”

After that she quickly made herself right at home.

Toothless accepted the new family member immediately, and let Squirt nurse alongside her other kittens.

Now, Squirt is safe, has a forever home, and a new family of other cats to play with.

She also has the opportunity to keep her streets safe while perched on the shoulder of her owner, should she choose a life in blue.

And she even has the mustache for the job (courtesy of a little creative photo editing).
