Couple Takes Newborn-Style Photos To Introduce Their New Puppy

Humphry is, without a doubt, the cutest baby you've ever seen on Facebook.

It’s difficult to check Facebook without having to scroll past what feels like a million pregnancy announcements, the first pictures of pink, wrinkled newborns or the creative-but-misguided photographers who think propping a bleary-eyed baby beside a fruit basket makes them Anne Freakin’ Geddes.

Thank goodness that Matt Kay and Abby Lee of Australia spared us from all of that. The couple worked with photographer Elisha Minnette to capture some beautiful, evocative images of the two of them with the new addition to their family, including shots of baby Humphry in a stroller, of them holding hands with the little guy and beaming as they embrace him.

But the crucial difference — and the reason I didn’t slam my laptop shut like the cynical Single Girl I am — is because Humphry is their puppy. The photo shoot happened just as they brought the little Groodle (half Golden Retriever, half poodle) home after adopting him.

“Making people smile & have a laugh was our intention for these images and after reading a lot of the comments, I feel we achieved that,” Minnette wrote on her Facebook page. “I’m so happy that at least 99% of you people have the same sense of humor as we do. As for the other 1%, lighten up a little!”

It was certainly a welcome change from the usual assortment of newborn shots. Now instead of just scrolling past all those other babies as fast as humanly possible, I’ll pause, shake my head and say, “Sorry, but he’s not as cute as Humphry.”

  • I just love these pics of Humphry with his parents. I too have fur babies and no human children. Our furry kids are spoiled rotten and included in family photos as well. We also celebrate their birthdays, they have Christmas stockings and presents beneath the tree. They are indeed members of our family and NOT pets to us.

  • My furbabies are just that – my babies. I don’t have any human children either so my dogs, I think, are the cutest, almost as cute as Humprey. Love those pictures.

  • That has to be one of the most adorable announcements EVER!!!! I`m an 81 year old, die-hard animal lover all my life and can easily flip through hundreds of baby pix, but shove a photo of an animal under my nose and I become a blubbering idiot, oooohs and awwww`s all over the place. Yes, they are, and always have been a part of my family, now residing with four cats and one dog. It`s a devastating feeling that can`t be explained when losing one. Have a great life, Humphry, you are loved!!

  • After raising two human “babies” and several fur babies, the furbabies are the best. They never talk back, they unconditionally love, they are always happy to see you and so on and so forth. The only bad thing is that they don’t stay with us as long as we wish they could (so sad). Enjoy your furbabies as they are the delight of the world. Treat them right because they will always treat you right and love you.

  • Lovely photographs.
My furry/Feathery family are my babies.
I am 82 and have had and lived with animals all my life and don’t think
    I could live without them.
I lost my husband 2 years ago but I don’t feel alone with my 2 wee Chihuahuas and my African Grey Parrot never stops talking and makes some quite intelligent sentences.

  • AAAAAAAAAWWW!!!!!!!!!! 😀
Well, SOMEBODY had to tap it!!!
This was absolutely PRICELESS, & my day is a WHOLE lot better now than it was before I found these pictures.
    “Groodle”?????
I like that more than “Goldendoodle”, & it’s a good puppy name, too!!! I never know what critter might decide to adopt me in the future, but it WILL be named “Groodle”—–unless that’s been copyrighted.
    THANKS for the adorableness, y’all,
    & GOD BLESS!!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
