True courage comes from within.

A small Dachshund named Tosya proved this point beautifully when the dog successfully chased away a bear that had been attacking two boys in the middle of a Russian village, The Siberia Times reports.

Stas Nagornov, 8, was walking home from a shop in Amgu village when a black bear reportedly pounced on him. His friend, 12-year-old Nikita Nikonov, responded by throwing a rock at the bear to shift its focus away from Stas and onto himself.

The bear scratched and clawed at both of them until Tosya showed up and began barking ferociously at the bear. Tosya then led the bear on a chase into the forest, away from the boys, before returning safely home.

Nikita and Stas were treated at the area hospital for scratches, bites (some deep) and bruises, according to The Siberian Times.

The boys and Tosya have been praised for their bravery in the face of a dangerous predator.
