Dogs can be amazing. They are (usually) totally devoted to their human friends, and can even be friendly with cats and other animals. Their show of affection knows no boundaries.

Huellitas de la Calle, an animal advocacy group in Guatemala, posted a video to Facebook that shows the depth of dogs’ devotion.

It starts with a dog lying in a ditch on the side of a busy road in Santa Carmen Catarina Pinula, injured and unable to move. Her canine friend stands next to her in the ditch. A man arrives and pulls the injured dog from the ditch and, with surgical gloves on, starts to perform a physical check on the dog. Meanwhile, the dog’s partner gives her some serious love and affection while she’s being examined.

The man then gently picks the dog up, cradling her in his arms in an effort to reduce further injury. Her partner stands on his hind legs to get more kisses in as the man carries the injured dog and places her into the bed of a flatbed truck.

As the truck pulls away with the hurt animal, the other dog begins to give chase. The truck keeps going. The dog keeps chasing. The driver of the truck is alerted to the dog chasing the truck down the road and thankfully stops the truck. A man goes back and retrieves the dog who wouldn’t stop chasing after his partner and places him in the back with the injured dog.

Huellitas de la Calle wrote on its Facebook page that they named the dogs Carmencita and Romeo. An examination of Romeo found that he had a tumor and had mange, so he was given treatment. Carmencita suffered some bone fractures that required surgery. As of July 12, she was up and walking with a limp. With healing, and the love of a good dog, we hope she will return to normal.

The video shows some serious passion, not only from the dog who didn’t want to be away from his partner, but also from the man who rescued the animal from the ditch and the driver who couldn’t separate them. The short clip is poignant and details the love that dog and dog, and dog and man, have for each other.
