Lots of the Carnivore Vital Essentials pet food treats have been voluntarily recalled due to possible listeria monocytogene contamination. Carnivore Meat Company, LLC of Green Bay, Wisconsin has issued the recall for the following products, distributed in Washington, California, Texas, Georgia, Illinois, Colorado, New Mexico, Florida, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Ohio and Vermont:

The voluntary recall went into effect after an independent lab detected listeria in the samples it reviewed. Carnivore Meat Company, LLC has not received any reports of illness. However, while healthy pets rarely become ill due to listeria, it can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in individuals with weakened immune systems, the elderly and young children. Healthy humans and pets may expedience high fever, stiffness, nausea, severe headache, diarrhea and abdominal pain due to listeria. Pregnant women who have been exposed to listeria monocytogenes may experience stillbirths or miscarriages. Consumers with concerns about their pet’s health should contact a veterinarian.

If you have purchased the recalled items listed above, call (920) 370-6542, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. CST to receive assistance in obtaining a replacement item or refund or to have any questions answered. If the package has been opened, dispose of it safely and securely.
