Dog Treat Recall: Good ‘N’ Fun Beefhide Chicken Sticks

Salix Animal Health, LLC announced the voluntary recall of one lot of its Good ‘n’ Fun – Beefhide Chicken Strips dog treats because of the possibility the lot was contaminated with salmonella. This was discovered after the Georgia Department of Agriculture conducted routine testing of the product and found the presence of salmonella in a package of the dog treats.

No other products or lots have been affected at this time, and no pet or consumer illnesses have been reported. The Deerfield, FL-based company is issuing the voluntary recall as a cautionary measure.

The recalled lot was distributed nationwide to Dollar General and Dollar Tree stores. The product affected by the recall is the Good ‘n’ Fun – Beefhide Chicken Strips dog treats packaged in a 2.8-ounce bag with lot number AO15010, expiration date 03/2018 and UPC code 0 91093 82247 1. This information is stamped on the back of the package.

Customers who have purchased the recalled product should dispose of it immediately or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Customers should also monitor their dogs for lethargy, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, vomiting, decreased appetite and abdominal pain. Dogs who have been exposed to salmonella but are otherwise healthy may be carriers and can infect other animals and humans. If your dog experiences any of these symptoms, contact your veterinarian. Customers should also monitor themselves and others in their household for nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Rarer symptoms include arterial infections, muscle pain, endocarditis, urinary tract symptoms, arthritis and eye irritation. If you or someone in your household has any of these symptoms, contact your doctor.

Salix Animal Health is working with Dollar General and Dollar Tree stores to ensure the recalled product is no longer sold or in inventory.
