As photographer Sophie Gamand says in the video below, she just may be the “Wet Dog” photographer for a long time. But that’s OK. Her images, which appear in her book WET DOG, are at once beautiful and fun while capturing a moment anyone who has a dog knows all too well: bath time.

Giving a dog a bath is a messy process – water almost always (well, always in my house) ends up on the floor and sometimes getting our dogs to sit still during the bath can be a challenge in and of itself, especially if that dog is a shelter dog (due to mistrust or fear). That, however, did not deter Gamand. As a supporter of the #AdoptDontShop movement, Gamand chose to photograph many shelter dogs for her project. She turned to photography following a career as an opera singer because she wanted to emphasize what animals and rescues go through in their search for forever homes.

Unclear of what move to make next and considering giving up on photography, Gamand instead discovered her “wet dog” photographs were going viral. The series was made into a book by Grand Central Publishing and was released October 13. WET DOG is Gamand’s debut book and consists of 120 photos of dogs during bath time. Take a look at some of the photos of the “soggy doggies”:
